When the FIFA World Cup arrives in a host city, every guest touchpoint becomes part of the experience.
The FIFA Fan Festival in Kansas City transformed public gathering spaces into immersive destinations where thousands of supporters could watch matches, relax between events, entertain clients, and celebrate the world's game together.
Temporary Tropics was selected to provide the live botanical design throughout the Fan Festival hospitality lounges, supplying both the live foliage installations and custom-designed centerpieces that helped unify the premium guest experience.
Our objective was simple: create spaces that felt warm, elevated, and unmistakably FIFA while maintaining the flexibility and durability required for one of the world's largest sporting events.
Custom Soccer Ball Centerpieces Designed In-House
Every detail of the hospitality experience was intentionally designed.
Rather than selecting an off-the-shelf centerpiece, our design team created a completely custom vessel inspired by the world's most recognizable object—the soccer ball.
The centerpieces were designed in-house and produced through 3D printing specifically for this event.
To complement the light wood furniture already specified throughout the hospitality lounges, we finished each vessel in a warm wood-tone color palette. Subtle green and brown line detailing was incorporated into each hexagonal panel to create the unmistakable geometry of a soccer ball while maintaining an elevated, hospitality-driven aesthetic.
Finished with architectural snake plants, each centerpiece delivered a clean, modern interpretation of the sport without relying on novelty décor.
The result was a conversation piece that felt sophisticated enough for VIP hospitality while remaining unmistakably FIFA.
Layering Tropical Greenery Throughout the Hospitality Spaces
The hospitality lounges overlooked the excitement of the Fan Festival while providing guests with comfortable areas to meet, relax, and entertain.
To soften the architectural interiors and temporary event infrastructure, we layered live foliage throughout the spaces using a carefully curated collection of premium tropical plants.
Large Ficus lyrata (Fiddle Leaf Fig) trees and elegant Olive Trees established height and visual anchors throughout the lounges.
Supporting those larger specimens, we incorporated lush 3-gallon tropical foliage—including Parlor Palms and Snake Plants—to create natural transitions between seating groups, hospitality areas, and guest circulation paths.
The combination introduced warmth, texture, and movement while maintaining clean sightlines toward the massive FIFA Fan Festival stage and entertainment areas.
Flexible Botanical Design for High-Traffic Event Environments
Events of this scale demand more than beautiful design.
Every installation must also function operationally.
Many of the larger specimen trees were installed in modern black rolling planters, allowing the event team to reposition greenery quickly as programming evolved throughout the festival.
This flexibility proved invaluable for adapting hospitality layouts while preserving the premium guest experience from opening day through the conclusion of the tournament.
