A Biophilic Corporate Retreat at Fontainebleau Miami Beach
When an event asks guests to think expansively, connect meaningfully and operate at a higher level, the environment must quietly support that intention.
From September 4–7, 2026, the Excellence Lawyers Retreat brought attorneys, firm owners and legal professionals together at Fontainebleau Miami Beach for several days of strategy, connection and professional momentum. Presented by Witherspoon Law Group and The Pittman Law Firm, the retreat transformed an entire floor of the resort’s conference setting into an immersive home for learning, gathering and evening celebration.
Temporary Tropics was invited to curate the live foliage rentals, biophilic design elements and supporting event décor throughout the experience.
The design brief was focused. The timeline was accelerated. Following a concentrated three-day design review, our team moved into production and delivered the complete botanical environment in fewer than seven days from the initial briefing.
For us, this was not a story about speed. It was a story about alignment: a prepared Client team, clear creative direction and the ability to bring botanical expertise, event knowledge and trusted creative resources together with calm precision.
A Setting With Its Own Sense of Occasion
Fontainebleau Miami Beach is not a neutral backdrop.
Since opening in 1954, the resort has been associated with glamour, cultural relevance and the art of arrival. Its architecture was designed to make an impression, and its history remains inseparable from Miami Beach itself.
That sense of occasion informed our approach.
Rather than compete with the resort’s scale, we introduced living greenery in measured, intentional gestures. The objective was to soften the conference environment, create visual continuity across an expansive event footprint and give guests natural moments of welcome, pause and connection.
The palette remained quiet and refined: lush green palms in soft, neutral planters. The planting was tropical in character, but never theatrical. It had to feel appropriate to Fontainebleau—fresh, polished and confidently at ease.
The Design Principle: Let the Foliage Lead the Guest Experience
Biophilic event design is most successful when it does more than make a room look beautiful.
At the Excellence Lawyers Retreat, live foliage was used as a spatial language. It marked transition points, introduced rhythm along the event floor, gave furniture groupings a sense of enclosure and brought warmth to areas designed for conversation.
The palms were intentionally placed where guests would notice them most:
Along the foyer, creating a layered and gracious arrival sequence
At key thresholds, where repeated pairs created symmetry and visual continuity
Around lounge seating, helping intimate gathering areas feel composed within a larger ballroom footprint
Beside the branded bar, adding natural scale and framing one of the evening’s highest-energy destinations
At the stage, where foliage softened the technical environment and gave the EXLC identity a sense of presence
Each placement served both the photograph and the person moving through the room.
The Foyer: A Grand Entrance, Softly Delivered
The first botanical gesture began before guests entered the main program.
In the foyer and connecting corridors, paired palms in matte neutral planters established a grand entrance without overwhelming the architecture. Their verticality echoed the height of the passages and drew the eye forward, creating a sequence that felt deliberate from one threshold to the next.
In one view, palms flank the illuminated Fontainebleau conference-center display. In another, a mirror doubles the greenery and extends the visual rhythm of the corridor. These moments are simple by design.
Repetition creates confidence. Symmetry creates calm. Living foliage gives a transitional space a feeling of welcome.
This is an important lesson in corporate event design: the guest experience begins well before the ballroom doors open.
The Lounge: Creating Conditions for Conversation
A corporate retreat is not sustained by programming alone. It also depends on the quality of the spaces between sessions—the moments when guests sit down, exchange an idea, make an introduction or allow a conversation to continue.
The lounge groupings were furnished in soft ivory upholstery, tactile pillows and warm wood accent tables. Our palms were positioned at the outer edges and behind the seating, giving the lounge areas a living perimeter.
That placement matters.
Plants create gentle boundaries without introducing walls. They make a large room feel more hospitable while preserving openness and sightlines. The eye reads the greenery as a natural frame, and the seating within it becomes a place that feels worth entering.
In the images, the palms add height behind the sofas and lounge chairs, balancing the low, relaxed profile of the furniture. They bring movement and texture to the ballroom’s clean architectural surfaces while maintaining enough space for circulation.
The result is not a literal garden. It is a room with a greater sense of life.
The Branded Beach Club Bar: Framing a High-Impact Moment
The EXLC Beach Club bar was one of the evening’s strongest visual statements: a coral-pink structure with illuminated vertical details, arched shelving and a glowing central sign.
It needed greenery that could hold its own against the color and energy of the build, while allowing the brand to remain unmistakably visible.
We flanked the bar with full, healthy palms in neutral planters. The foliage gave the structure a natural frame, adding scale and a sense of arrival at either side. The planters were deliberately restrained so the coral design, signage and product display remained the focal point.
This is a central principle of biophilic event styling: foliage should not compete with a branded environment. It should give the environment depth.
The palms softened the dark wood doors behind the bar, added contrast against the pink façade and made the installation feel rooted within the ballroom rather than simply placed in front of it.
The Stage: A Living Frame for the Retreat’s Identity
The main stage carried the EXLC branding, the Excellence Lawyers Retreat name and the marks of Witherspoon Law Group and The Pittman Law Firm.
The stage setting was illuminated in rich blue with a coral-toned central scenic panel. Two palms, placed symmetrically on either side, brought life and proportion to the composition.
This choice was intentionally modest.
A stage already contains many high-contrast elements: screens, lighting, drape, signage, lecterns and technical equipment. Plants can bring softness and depth, but only when their scale is appropriate and their placement respects speaker access, camera angles and the visual hierarchy of the brand.
Here, the palms framed the central identity without obscuring it. Under the blue and green light, the foliage took on a sculptural quality, allowing the setting to shift naturally from daytime program to evening atmosphere.
Live foliage responded to the lighting. That is one of the quiet pleasures of using real plants in event design: they bring dimensionality that changes with the room.
A Composed Response Under a Focused Timeline
Some events benefit from months of planning. Others call for a highly focused creative process, where the essential decisions are made clearly and carried into production with discipline.
The Excellence Lawyers Retreat was the latter.
With the event floor reserved at Fontainebleau Miami Beach and the broader program taking shape, Temporary Tropics was tasked with outfitting the space with live foliage while also supporting the evening décor and entertainment experience.
The design review was intentionally concentrated. Once the visual direction, placements and priorities were approved, our team coordinated plant selection, planter preparation, event logistics, delivery timing and installation.
The compressed timeline did not change the standard of care.
Every palm was selected for fullness, health and proportion. Each planter was chosen to complement the venue palette and furniture design. Installations were positioned to create impact without interrupting circulation, sightlines or the work of the surrounding event team.
When planning is clear, production can move quickly without feeling rushed.
Why Live Foliage Matters at Corporate Retreats
Corporate event plant rentals do more than fill a room.
They help a program feel considered.
At a retreat, where networking and reflection are part of the purpose, biophilic elements can make formal spaces feel more approachable. They create visual rest between branded moments. They introduce scale around furniture. They soften hard edges and encourage guests to settle into a conversation.
For this project, palms performed several roles at once:
They elevated the Fontainebleau foyer into an arrival experience.
They framed lounge seating and made gathering areas feel more inviting.
They gave the Beach Club bar greater scale and visual finish.
They softened the stage while preserving the EXLC brand identity.
They created a cohesive botanical language across the entire event floor.
This is the value of intentional live foliage rental design. The plants are not an afterthought; they are part of the event’s architecture.
