Dunes are far more than scenic landscapes. They are living systems that protect coastlines, reduce erosion, and provide habitat for countless species . Sea oats, in particular, play a critical role—anchoring sand with deep root systems and stabilizing dunes against wind and waves .
Mangroves extend that protection even further—filtering water, supporting marine life, and acting as natural barriers against storm surge and coastal damage .
