THE CASE OF: THE WATERCOLOR SALON
Some entertainment creates a queue. The right entertainment creates a small, beautiful pause.
For a private celebration in Golden Beach, Florida, Temporary Tropics was asked to curate an experience for a group of exceptionally stylish women gathering around a meaningful life moment. The room did not need more noise. It needed something personal, flattering, and worthy of the women it was intended for.
The answer was The Watercolor Salon: a live watercolor fashion-sketch experience that turns each guest into the subject of her own small work of art.
The artist worked quietly within the celebration, meeting one guest at a time and observing the details that make a portrait feel like hers: the line of a dress, the movement of a pose, the color of a shoe, the confidence in an expression. What she created was not an exaggerated caricature for a quick laugh. It was a polished fashion illustration—light, expressive, and rendered with enough care that a guest would want to photograph it, frame it, show it to a friend, or take it home and keep it.
That is the difference.
A guest should never feel like the subject of a joke at a beautiful event. She should feel seen.
A More Personal Kind of Event Entertainment
A live watercolor fashion sketch artist is often grouped into the broad category of caricature entertainment. The Watercolor Salon is a more considered interpretation of that idea.
It gives each attendee an experience that is personal without being overly performative. The artist draws the best version of the person sitting before her: stylish, composed, and unmistakably herself. For the host, it becomes an elegant moment within the event. For the guest, it becomes a keepsake with real staying power.
A single artist typically completes six to eight finished watercolor portraits per hour, depending on the detail and finish selected. For an intimate social gathering, that pace creates a relaxed rhythm throughout the event. For a larger private celebration, corporate event, brand activation, or reception with a substantial attendee count, Temporary Tropics can contract multiple artists at once.
The number of artists is never selected casually. We consider the guest count, event duration, arrival pattern, room layout, whether the experience will be a cocktail-hour focal point or an all-evening amenity, and how long a guest should reasonably wait. Beautiful talent is only part of the equation. The experience must also work.
That is where thoughtful event planning matters.
Why Temporary Tropics Was Engaged
Temporary Tropics began more than 20 years ago as a trusted provider of premium live foliage rentals. Today, we operate as a full-service event-management and elevated-experiences agency under the Temporary Tropics brand.
Live foliage remains at the heart of what we do. It always will. But our work has evolved to include florals, event décor, entertainment, guest activations, botanical experiences, outdoor programming, and the creative details that transform an event from well-produced to genuinely memorable.
I came to Temporary Tropics after a career in meeting and event planning, and that background shapes how I lead every project. I have always understood events through two lenses at once: how they should look and how they need to work.
Design matters deeply to me—the color, proportion, texture, visual rhythm, and feeling a room creates before anyone has said a word. But as a former meeting planner, I also understand the less visible work behind a seamless program: the budget, production schedule, venue requirements, guest flow, staffing, load-in restrictions, and dozens of small decisions that determine whether an event feels effortless or hurried.
That balance is the value our clients are engaging.
We do not simply place foliage, contract an artist, or send over a list of options. We begin by understanding the occasion, the guest, the setting, and the desired outcome. Then we curate the right elements around that experience.
Sometimes the answer is live foliage. Sometimes it is a grand entrance, a floral gesture, a musician, a specialty activation, or a personal keepsake such as The Watercolor Salon. Often, it is a combination of several carefully selected details.
Through deep relationships across the hospitality, events, production, design, and entertainment industries, Temporary Tropics can source and coordinate nearly any element essential to a successful event. We do not claim to be every specialty under one roof. We know who belongs at the table, and we know how to bring the right talent together with purpose.
That is the difference between adding a vendor and curating an experience.
An Experience That Belongs Anywhere
The Watercolor Salon is beautifully suited to a private event, but it is not limited to one type of gathering.
For a bridal shower, birthday, luncheon, or intimate celebration, it gives guests a personal moment and something lovely to take home. For corporate event entertainment in Miami or anywhere across South Florida, it offers an elevated alternative to louder, more transactional activations. For a brand event, it can create meaningful guest engagement through a keepsake people genuinely want to hold onto.
It works because the experience is adaptable, but never generic.
The artist can meet the energy of a high-fashion private party in Golden Beach, a corporate hospitality lounge in Miami, a luxury retail activation, or an elegant social gathering in Palm Beach. The setting changes. The core idea does not: every guest deserves to feel considered.
At this Golden Beach celebration, the watercolor portraits became part of the atmosphere of the afternoon. They were stylish, intimate, and just unexpected enough to feel special. More importantly, they reflected the women in the room—not as a novelty, but as individuals worth celebrating.
That is what we look for when we curate entertainment.
Not something simply to fill time.
Something that stays with people.
