Unlike fuller Cat Palms, Areca Palms provide a taller, more architectural silhouette that naturally frames presenters without overwhelming them. Their elegant height softened the expansive black pipe-and-drape backdrop while creating visual symmetry from every audience angle.

The result was a stage that immediately felt warmer, more welcoming, and distinctly elevated.

Concealing the Necessary

Every meeting space has functional necessities that are never intended to become focal points.

Access stairs.

Equipment.

Structural elements.

Temporary staging.

Rather than allowing these elements to interrupt the visual experience, we strategically positioned live foliage to conceal the stage access stairs.

Instead of noticing the mechanics behind the production, attendees experienced a seamless environment where the design appeared effortless.

Creating Depth Across the Front of the Stage

We lined the front edge of the stage with lush Boston Ferns.

This simple decision accomplished several objectives simultaneously:

  • Softened the hard stage edge

  • Added visual depth for photography

  • Created a natural transition between presenters and audience

  • Introduced texture without obstructing sightlines

The greenery also reinforced the conference's calming aesthetic, creating an environment that encouraged conversation, reflection, and learning.

Building Layers of Interest

Rather than limiting greenery to floor-level installations, we incorporated additional foliage behind the seating area on stage.

These secondary layers created subtle depth around the speaker chairs while avoiding visual clutter.

Instead of placing plants randomly throughout a ballroom, we compose with them much like an interior designer layers furnishings, artwork, and lighting.
